Health in carers
10 Jun, 11 | by BMJ Group
There are six million carers in the UK, and 21% suffer from poor health compared to 11% of the general population. Offering preventative support to carers can not only improve a community’s health in a targeted way, but save work and time for GPs.
Alison Walker, a clinical editor with BMJ Learning, talks to Helena McKeown (a GP in Salisbury and a BMA Committee on Community Care member) and Emily Holzhausen (director of policy and public affairs at Carers UK) about the problems carers face and what GPs can do to help.
